"It's good that he got to get out there and play nine innings," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said of Stewart, who went 2-for-5 to raise his spring average to .308. "He looked very good."
If Stewart can hit, the Rockies figure to find at-bats for him this season, even though he plays the same position as Garrett Atkins, who hit 21 homers with 99 RBI last season.
Stewart hit 10 homers in 266 at-bats last season for the Rockies.
"It's not a problem at all," Hurdle replied when asked about the crowded third base position.
Morales, a candidate for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, allowed two runs and four hits.
The left-hander was 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA in five starts during a disappointing 2008 stint with the Rockies, but he had his third respectable outing in four starts this spring. He was coming off four scoreless innings against San Francisco on March 7.
"I think he got a little antsy today," Hurdle said. "I thought we saw improvement but there is still room for improvement."
Lackey worked a spring-high four innings, allowing four hits with two walks and one strikeout.
"It wasn't good. It wasn't bad," he said. "My curveball I wasn't very happy with."
Lackey, a free agent at the end of the season, didn't have much to say about his contract. He has stated that he hopes his contract status does not carry over into the regular season.
"It's going," he said. "We have a few more weeks."
Dan Ortmeier also homered for the Rockies, his second of the spring. He along with Clint Barmes and Stewart each had two of the Rockies' 10 hits. Scott Podsednik went 1-for-2 with three walks, his third stolen base and an over-the-shoulder catch in center field.
Howie Kendrick upped his spring average to .500 with two hits in three trips to the plate. Luis Figueroa also had two of the Angels' 11 hits.
