Pirates hire former Colorado Rockies broadcaster
Tim Neverett, a former broadcaster for the Colorado Rockies, was hired today to be play-by-play announcer for the Pirates, filling the post vacated by Lanny Frattare's retirement Oct. 1.

Neverett, 42, joins Greg Brown and analysts Steve Blass, Bob Walk and John Wehner to complete the team's five-man broadcasting crew.

Neverett joins the Pirates from FSN Rocky Mountain where he worked as a pre- and post-game studio host and part-time play-by-play announcer for Rockies telecasts. He also worked for Versus and the Mountain West Conference Sports Network as an announcer for college football and basketball games.

"We conducted an exhaustive search that included more than 200 qualified candidates, many of whom are Major League quality broadcasters," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement.

"Tim's ability and experience, combined with his work ethic, passion for Baseball and desire to make a positive impact in the community, made him the ideal addition to our broadcast team."

Neverett has called more than 1,000 minor-league and college Baseball games. He began his broadcasting career at 19 when he called games for the Pirates then-affiliate in Nashua, N.H.

"It's an honor and a privilege to have an opportunity to bring Pirates Baseball action to the fans of Pittsburgh," Neverett said.
