Florida (44-40) remained 1 1/2 games behind NL East-leading Philadelphia with a 4-2 win over Washington on Wednesday. The Marlins wrapped up their homestand winning four of six after dropping their previous four games.
"It's nice to win back-to-back series at home, and now we go on the road," Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez told the team's official Web site.
The Marlins will be on the road up to the All-Star break, as they head to San Diego for three games and then to Los Angeles to play the Dodgers for four after their four-game series at Coors Field. They won't play another home game until July 18 against the Phillies.
The road has been unkind to Florida lately, as it's dropped 15 of 22 away from Dolphin Stadium. The only series the Marlins won in that span was when they took two of three over lowly Seattle from June 16-18.
Only four teams in the majors have winning road records and Florida is not one of them at 18-20.
The Marlins have had success at Coors, though, winning two of three there last season after sweeping the three-game series in 2006.
They are hoping to get Dan Uggla back for this road trip after he missed the last four games because of an ankle injury.
Uggla, tied with Philadelphia's Chase Utley for the major league lead with 23 home runs, has not homered since June 20 and is 3-for-17 (.176) with one RBI in his last six games. He has not been any better against the Rockies in his career, batting .176 (9-for-51) with two home runs and six RBIs in 12 games.
Andrew Miller (5-7, 5.05 ERA) hopes to set the tone for the road trip when he makes his first career start against Colorado (34-51) on Thursday.
Miller has yielded 11 runs - seven earned - in 9 2-3 innings in losing his last two starts after giving up two runs in 14 innings over his previous two outings.
On Saturday against Arizona, Miller got off to a strong start, throwing four shutout innings, but things quickly unraveled in the fifth and sixth. The left-hander gave up six runs - three earned - and five hits in 5 2-3 innings of a 6-2 loss.
The Marlins have lost five of Miller's last seven starts.
Colorado defeated San Diego 8-1 on Wednesday to win its second straight following an eight-game losing streak, including a 15-8 defeat in Monday's series opener.
"One thing we've been able to do is wash off tough losses," Garrett Atkins said. "Monday night was definitely a tough loss, but we were able to come back and take the series."
Atkins, who hit his 11th homer and drove in four runs Wednesday, went 11-for-22 with a home run and seven RBIs in six games versus the Marlins last season.
Mark Redman (2-3, 7.84) takes the hill Thursday, replacing the injured Jeff Francis in the Rockies' starting rotation.
Francis, Colorado's opening day starter, has struggled to win three games this season after racking up 17 victories a year ago, and was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with shoulder inflammation.
Redman opened the year in the Rockies' rotation before being moved to the bullpen on May 7 and four days later he was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he was 5-2 with a 4.64 ERA in nine starts. He has not won with the Rockies since April 16, as he went 0-2 with a 12.51 ERA in his final three starts.
Redman, who won a career-best 14 games for Florida in 2003, was pounded for 13 runs and 13 hits in 5 2-3 innings in two starts against his former team last season.
