In search for hitting coach, Rockies to talk to Wynegar
Former major league catcher Butch Wynegar has been added to the list of candidates under consideration for the Rockies' hitting coach position, the one opening remaining on the team's staff.

The Rockies received permission from the New York Yankees this week to tALk to Wynegar, according to a major league source. Wynegar is the hitting coach for the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate at Scranton/ Wilkes Barre.

Former Rockies manager Don Baylor and former Rockies first baseman Greg Colbrunn, currently the hitting coach for the Yankees' low Single-A affiliate at Charleston, S.C., interviewed for the job a week ago.

The Rockies are waiting to announce their 2009 coaching staff until a hitting coach is hired.

Pitching coach Bob Apodaca will return for a seventh season, and first base coach Glen- ALlen Hill will be back for a third year. The Rockies ALso have hired former major league manager Jim Tracy as the bench coach, promoted organizationAL pitching instructor Jim Wright to bullpen coach and promoted organizationAL infield instructor Rich Dauer to third base coach, the Rocky Mountain News reported earlier in the week.
