Rockieshome.com | Colorado Rockies News, rockies Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --1B Todd Helton singled in the fourth inning Thursday, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. He went 1-for-4, leaving him 19-for-38 (.500) during his streak. He failed to have two hits for just the second time in his past 10 games and fourth in his past 15. Helton, who is batting .355, is 10 hits shy of 2,000.
--RF Brad Hawpe hit his fourth homer of the season, against Giants LHP Jeremy Affeldt. It was Hawpe's third homer against a left-hander, the others coming at Los Angeles on April 17 off Randy Wolf and April 19 off Scott Elbert. Hawpe's other homer was off RHP Matt Cain on Saturday at San Francisco. --3B Ian Stewart's two-run homer in the ninth off Justin Miller ended a string of 34 at-bats without a home run, a drought dating back to April 20 at Arizona when Stewart homered off Jon Garland.
--CF Dexter Fowler, the Rockies' leadoff hitter, struck out three times.
--SS Troy Tulowitzki struck out three times. Tulowitzki has two hits in his past 18 at-bats, dropping his average to .198.
--3B Garrett Atkins was not in the lineup and was given what manager Clint Hurdle likes to call a "work day." Atkins is hitting .224 overall with three homers and 13 RBIs. He has gone hitless in his past nine at-bats.
MEDICAL WATCH:
INF Jeff Baker (sprained left wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 27.
LHP Franklin Morales (strained left lat) went on the 15-day disabled list April 22.
RHP Ryan Speier (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 19. He threw a bullpen session April 27.
RHP Taylor Buchholz (partial tear in right ulnar collateral ligament) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 22. The Rockies are being very cautious with Buchholz, trying to make sure the partial tear doesn't become a full-blown one and require Tommy John surgery that would sideline Buchholz for about a year.
LHP Jeff Francis (left shoulder surgery in February 2009) went on the 60-day disabled list April 5. He likely will miss the entire season. Recovery time ranges from six to 12 months, meaning it's possible Francis could pitch in September but not very likely.
