--CF Dexter Fowler drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning Wednesday, his first RBI since the last game the Rockies played at Coors Field on April 29. He also drove in a run in the eighth with a single, giving Fowler his first career multi-RBI game.
--RHP Jason Marquis will try to improve his record in day games in the finale of the two-game series against the Giants. Marquis, who spent the past two seasons with the Cubs, is tied for the major league lead in wins during the day since 2007 with an 18-5 record. He's 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA this season while starting four of the Rockies' 13 day games. --1B Todd Helton, who batted cleanup for the second time this season, extended his hitting streak to nine games and had his first three-hit game of the season. Helton has at least two hits in eight of his past nine games and 11 of his past 14. He singled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth and homered in the seventh on the 14th pitch from Giants RHP Osiris Matos. Helton went 3-for-4, raising his average to .360. During his nine-game hitting streak, Helton has gone 18-for-34 (.529).
MEDICAL WATCH:
INF Jeff Baker (sprained left wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 27.
LHP Franklin Morales (strained left lat) went on the 15-day disabled list April 22.
RHP Ryan Speier (strained left hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 19. He threw a bullpen session April 27.
RHP Taylor Buchholz (partial tear in right ulnar collateral ligament) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 22. The Rockies are being very cautious with Buchholz, trying to make sure the partial tear doesn't become a full-blown one and require Tommy John surgery that would sideline Buchholz for about a year.
LHP Jeff Francis (left shoulder surgery in February 2009) went on the 60-day disabled list April 5. He likely will miss the entire season. Recovery time ranges from six to 12 months, meaning it's possible Francis could pitch in September but not very likely.
