--1B Todd Helton's double in the fourth was his second extra-base hit of the season. A single in the sixth gave Helton his second multi-hit game of the season. After going 2-for-4, Helton is 9-for-39.
--RHP Jason Marquis allowed three runs in 14 innings while winning his first two starts. He extended his streak of homerless innings to 15 before Mark Reynolds led off the second with a homer and gave up a three-run homer to Miguel Montero in the fifth.
--OF Ryan Spilborghs was 1-for-16 on the road trip and had three hits in his past 24 at-bats with 11 strikeouts before his pinch-hit, run-scoring double in the eighth. It was Spilborghs? seventh double of the year.
--RHP Jason Grilli, who has a 1.42 ERA in seven games, has made six straight scoreless appearances since he gave up two runs in two innings in the season-opener April 6. Overall, Grilli has one intentional walk and seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings after striking out the side in the eighth.
--RHP Jason Hammel made his second straight scoreless two-inning appearance. The first was Saturday night at Los Angeles. He has no walks and four strikeouts in those two games.
--RHP Huston Street allowed three homers in his first 4 2/3 innings. Last year, Street yielded six homers in 70 innings. Opponents are 10-for-23 (.435) against Street, who limited opponents to an average of .229 (58-for-253) last year.
--RHP Ubaldo Jimenez has had successive poor starts. He gave up four hits, three runs and six walks in 3 2/3 innings April 13 at Wrigley Field when it was 36 degrees and windy and damp. Sunday in Los Angeles, it was 91 degrees and weather wasn't a factor when Jimenez allowed seven hits, seven runs and four walks in 4 1/3 innings while throwing just 59 of 100 pitches for strikes.
"He was all over the joint and it wasn't cold," manager Clint Hurdle said. "We have to revisit some things with him mechanically. He's out of alignment. He didn't have command of any one pitch. I really wanted him to finish five (innings), but there was nothing there to get him through five."
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Taylor Buchholz (partial tear in right ulnar collateral ligament) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He will miss at least the first month of the season. The Rockies are being very cautious with Buchholz, trying to make sure the partial tear doesn't become a full-blown one and require Tommy John surgery that would sideline Buchholz for about a year.
LHP Jeff Francis (left shoulder surgery in February 2009) went on the 60-day disabled list April 5. He likely will miss the entire season. Recovery time ranges from six to 12 months, meaning it's possible Francis could pitch in September but not very likely.
