Colorado Rockies Notes, Quotes 2008-09-05
--SS Troy Tulowitzki on July 21 recovered from a hand injury and ended his second stint of the season on the disabled list. He was hitting .166 but has since gone 48-for-147 (.327) to raise his average to .247 and appears to have things back in order offensively.

"I'd like to think so," Tulowitzki said. "I've done pretty well the second half. It's still been a tough season, the first half to get off as slow as I did. But I'm making it respectable. There's still some games to go to make it even more respectable."

--RHP Aaron Cook's ERA of 4.10 is the highest it has been since April 2, when he made his first start of the season and gave up four runs in six innings for a 6.00 ERA. Cook has pitched 5 2/3 innings or less in five of his past six starts, going 2-3 with a 7.12 ERA in that stretch.

--LHP Brian Fuentes has at least one strikeout in 11 consecutive games and in 23 of his past 24 since July 3. The closer has totaled 42 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings in that span, an average of 15.97 strikeouts per nine innings.

--RF Brad Hawpe is hitting .292 in 312 at-bats against right-handed pitchers and .294 in 109 at-bats against left-handers.

--INF Clint Barmes went 71 at-bats without a home run before ending the drought Wednesday against San Francisco LHP Barry Zito. It was Barmes' first homer since Aug. 13, when he moved into the leadoff spot and connected against Arizona LHP Doug Davis. The home run against Zito also broke Barmes' string of 10 hitless at-bats.

--3B Ian Stewart has three hits in his past 22 at-bats, and CF Willy Taveras has gone 5 for his past 33.

--1B Garrett Atkins, who has a respectable 80 strikeouts in 540 at-bats, has struck out at least once in a season-high seven consecutive games. His previous longest stretch was five consecutive games with at least one strikeout April 11-16.

--C Chris Iannetta has gone 7-for-17 with eight walks in his past seven games to raise his average to .277 and his on-base percentage to .399.

BY THE NUMBERS: 4 -- Consecutive quality starts, through Aug. 31, for LHP Jeff Francis, sidelined earlier in the season by left shoulder inflammation.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I just tell him what Rusty Staub told me. There's no pressure on a pinch-hitter. You're going up because everyone else messed up. That had four or five chances and didn't' get the job done. You get one chance." -- Rockies manager Clint Hurdle, on advice he gave PH Seth Smith.
