--The Rockies are 0-8 in one-run games, including 0-5 on the road, and according to the Elias Sports Bureau only five teams have started a season by losing their first nine one-run games. The Braves did it last year, going 0-9 before winning 5-4 on May 8, 2008. The 2000 Astros set the major league record by losing their first 12 games decided by one run.
--The Rockies entered play Friday having outscored their opponents 139-130 but with an 11-16 record. They and the Pirates (122-114) were the only two NL teams with a losing record and a positive run differential. --The Rockies have had one three-game winning streak (April 7-10) and another two-game winning streak (April 26-27). Their latest loss dropped their record to 11-17 and put them a season-worst six games below .500 for the second time; the other was when they were 5-11 following an April 25 defeat.
--The Rockies are 1-14 in games when the opposing team has scored first.
--The Rockies stand to benefit from Manny Ramirez's 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy, but manager Clint Hurdle didn't see it as a happy event.
"The sad part is that for whatever reason, there are individuals who don't get it," Hurdle said. "It's sad to me as an ex-player and coach and now as a manager, there are so many guys who are clean and they are thrown under a black cloud. It's even sadder to me as a parent who has a daughter who relies on human growth hormones to have people not understand the impact and value."
Hurdle's daughter Madison, who turns 7 in August, was born with Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic disorder that can create low muscle tone, developmental delays, morbid obesity, cognitive disabilities and behavior problems.
