Colorado Rockies Notes, Quotes 2009-05-08
--The Rockies stand to benefit from Manny Ramirez's 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy, but manager Clint Hurdle didn't see it as a happy event.

"The sad part is that for whatever reason, there are individuals who don't get it," Hurdle said. "It's sad to me as an ex-player and coach and now as a manager, there are so many guys who are clean and they are thrown under a black cloud. It's even sadder to me as a parent who has a daughter who relies on human growth hormones to have people not understand the impact and value."

Hurdle's daughter Madison, who turns 7 in August, was born with Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic disorder that can create low muscle tone, developmental delays, morbid obesity, cognitive disabilities and behavior problems.

--RHP Jason Marquis lost Thursday for the first time at Coors Field, where he is 5-1 with a 3.31 ERA in eight games, seven starts. He had won his previous two starts there this season. In his first five starts, Marquis allowed three home runs in 35 1/3 innings. He gave up homers to Bengie Molina in consecutive innings Thursday when he pitched into the seventh, leaving after facing three batters.

--OF Matt Murton hit his first homer with the Rockies on Wednesday, and C Yorvit Torrealba followed with a homer against Giants LHP Randy Johnson in the fifth inning. It was the third time this season the Rockies have hit back-to-back homers, and the second time involving Torrealba. On April 6 at Arizona, Troy Tulowitzki and Chris Iannetta homered against Brandon Webb. On April 8 at Arizona, Torrealba and Ian Stewart homered against Billy Buckner.

--Murton's homer came in his second start with the Rockies. The other start was May 1 at San Francisco, also in a game started by Giants LHP Randy Johnson. Murton went 2-for-4 that day. The homer was Murton's first in the majors since Sept. 29, 2007, at Cincinnati, a span of 32 games and 82 at-bats without a homer.

--RHP Ubaldo Jimenez's single Wednesday on the first pitch from Giants RHP Osiris Matos gave him his first career RBI on his 100th at-bat in the big leagues.

BY THE NUMBERS: 0 -- Three-run homers or grand slams by the Rockies until C Chris Iannetta hit a slam May 4.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "In the bullpen, you have a lot of guys out there where you don't know what you are going to get. That's got to end." -- Manager Clint Hurdle, on the Rockies relievers.
