Colorado Rockies Notes, Quotes 2009-04-13
--For the second time in six games, 1B Todd Helton wasn't in the lineup Sunday, although he entered the game defensively in the eighth. There's nothing wrong with Helton's back -- he underwent arthroscopic back surgery Sept. 30 -- and manager Clint Hurdle said his focus was on the long run.

"Todd wants to play," Hurdle said. "I understand that. But we've got a long road in front of us. We aren't dealing with (recovering from) a hamstring injury over the winter. I'm not going to say anything is (set) in cement, but we will play it by ear. All I know is that initially we are going to be proactive."

It was damp and chilly Sunday and Hurdle said he'll consider the cold April weather when determining Helton's schedule.

"I do know this," Hurdle said. "Watching him in the (exhibition) game at Las Vegas when it was chilly and windy, it looked like he was leading a Pilates class at first base. The moving around he was doing, I thought we were going to have to change first basemen in the middle of the inning and not the pitcher."

--LHP Jeff Francis, who is out for the season following arthroscopic shoulder surgery Feb. 25, was around his teammates for the first time following his operation when the Rockies began their home season April 10.

"It's really strange being around the guys right now," Francis said. "During March it wasn't so bad, even when I watched the guys on TV during spring training. It was more distant. Now that they're up here, it's going to be a little strange."

Six weeks removed from surgery, Francis is doing range-of-motion exercises and progressing as expected. "They found a tear in the (labrum) that didn't show up on the MRI, but they repaired it and the doctors think everything else looks very good."

--For the third consecutive Easter Sunday, RHP Aaron Cook started for the Rockies. His record on the holiday is 0-1 with a 1.96 ERA, having allowed 18 hits and five runs, all earned, 23 innings.

BY THE NUMBERS: 3 -- Home runs in 19 at-bats in six games for SS Troy Tulowitzki, who hit three home runs in 151 at-bats in 39 games last year before the All-Star break when he was on the disabled list twice with injuries.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I was trying to go down and in. I just didn't get it in. You miss your spot in the big leagues, they do that to you." -- closer Huston Street on the 1-1 fastball pinch-hitter Matt Stairs hit for a game-winning two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth.
