Colorado Rockies Notes, Quotes 2008-10-16
--Manager Clint Hurdle and general manager Dan O'Dowd were scheduled to have the first of several postseason meetings on Sept. 29 to begin talking about the strategy for 2009 and changes Hurdle will need to make. They figure to get to the coaching staff later on in the month.

--RHP Ubaldo Jimenez had a no-decision in the season finale, but he worked seven shutout innings, giving up three hits. He struck out 10, one shy of his career best. He only allowed one Arizona baserunner to get into scoring position. "From where he was (when the season started) to where he got to was impressive," manager Clint Hurdle said. "It was all due to his hard work and adjustments. ... His composure and mound presence grew as much as anything."

--The Rockies lost 15 times in 18 games against Arizona, equaling a franchise record for the most losses to one team in a season. The Rockies were 4-15 against the Dodgers in 2006. The worst season record against a team, however, was in 1993, their first year of existence, when the Rockies were 0-13 against Atlanta.

--INF Garrett Atkins and OF Willy Taveras were the only Rockies players to earn incentives based on game-related stats. Atkins picked up $525,000 total for finishing with 664 plate appearances. He earned $175,000 each at 600, 625 and 650. He failed to reach the $20,000 for 675 and 700 appearances. Willy Taveras had 538 plate appearances, picking up $50,000 for 500 plate appearances, but with a stress fracture in his right tibia, he was unable to reach either 550 or 600 plate appearances, which also had $50,000 payments. RHP Aaron Cook and OF Matt Holliday both earned $25,000 for their All-Star selections.

--The Rockies led the NL with 141 stolen bases, but their inability to steal a base during the weekend in Arizona cost them the major league lead. Tampa Bay had 142, as Eric Hinske stole a base in the season finale at Detroit. It is the third-best stolen base total in Rockies history, behind 1996, when the Rockies stole 201, and 1993, their first year of existence, when they stole 146 bases.

BY THE NUMBERS: 12 -- Pitchers who started games for the Rockies this season, one fewer than a year ago. That was third in the majors, behind San Diego, which used 14 starters, and Pittsburgh, which used 13.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We have to see how the terrain moves this winter. He needs to keep (versatility) in play, and stay familiar with (second base and left field)." -- Manager Clint Hurdle, on whether Ian Stewart can focus on third base this offseason or needs to continue to work at second base and in left field.
