Right-hander Jason Marquis has been a godsend to a Rockies rotation that has seen the team go 1-7 in games started by Nos. 1 and 2 starters Aaron Cook and Ubaldo Jimenez. Slotted third in the rotation, Marquis has three of the Rockies six wins, and the club is 3-1 in his starts.
Since the third game of the season, the only Rockies starter with a win is Marquis. Jimenez won April 7 at Arizona in the second game of the season and Franklin Morales won there the following day. But since Morales' win, only Marquis has a win among Rockies starters. He won April 10 in the Rockies home opener, won April 15 at Chicago in the Cubs' home opener, and won Sunday against the Dodgers. So Marquis is the only starter with a win in 14 games dating from April 10.
Marquis' win over the Dodgers broke a three-game losing streak for the Rockies. It's the second time he halted a three-game losing streak, having done so on April 15 following two losses against the Phillies and one at Chicago.
Marquis has pitched at least seven innings in three of his four starts, including 7 1/3 Sunday, the most by any Rockies starter. The only other starter to work seven innings was Jimenez, who went that distance in his April 7 outing.
Marquis is 5-0 lifetime at Coors Field where he has made seven appearances and six starts and has a 2.72 ERA.
ROCKIES 10, DODGERS 4: The Rockies broke a three-game losing streak, winning for the first time in six games against the Dodgers and just the third time in their past 13 games. Clint Barmes and Ryan Spilborghs each hit two-run homers in the third, and Jeff Baker tripled home three runs in a five-run fifth. Jason Marquis pitched a season-high 7 1/3 innings, the most by any Rockies starter this year.
