Greg Reynolds, 23, will start Monday against San Diego, taking the place of Livan Hernandez in the rotation and making his first start for the Rockies since July 4.
That's when Reynolds, the second player taken overall in the 2006 draft, completed an 11-start stretch for the Rockies that began May 11. During that run, Reynolds went 2-6 with a 6.71 ERA and allowed an uncharacteristically high number of walks (24) and home runs (12) in 57 2/3 innings. Reynolds, who pitched a scoreless inning Wednesday at Atlanta, had been throwing across his body. He worked to correct his alignment at Class AAA Colorado Springs, where the Rockies received encouraging reports that he worked hard and improved in all aspects of his game.
"I was just making it more difficult for myself," Reynolds said. "Getting back on line frees up a lot of things and allows me to finish a lot of pitches down in the zone.
"I feel like I'm in a much better spot than I was before, and hopefully I can continue doing the things that I corrected and continue to stay on line and keep moving in the right direction."
ROCKIES 1, DODGERS 0 (10 innings): Troy Tulowitzki's single on an 0-2 pitch from Hong-Chih Kuo with the bases loaded and one out gave the Rockies a win to end what had been the longest scoreless tie at Coors Field, where 1,120 games have been played. Aaron Cook pitched eight scoreless innings and Greg Maddux seven before the Rockies avoided being swept in the three-game series. The winning rally began with a leadoff single by Matt Holliday, followed by a one-out single by Garrett Atkins and Ryan Spilborghs' pinch single that loaded the bases before Tulowitzki's hit.
