Jeong Jang and Candie Kung beat Annika Sorenstam and Angela Stanford 3 and 2 on Friday to help Asia split the six opening alternate-shot matches in the Lexus Cup at Singapore, Sorenstam's final LPGA Tour-sanctioned event before she retires.

Sorenstam, set to end her Hall of Fame career next week in the Ladies European Tour's Dubai Ladies Masters, is the International team's playing captain.

The teams will play six best-ball matches today and the competition will conclude Sunday with 12 singles matches.

Clark up one in Australia: Tim Clark of South Africa shot a 2-under 70 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds of the Australian Masters at Melbourne.

Clark had a two-round total of 7-under 137, a stroke ahead of Australians Anthony Summers, who shot a 68, and Michael Sim, who had a 66.

Seven players were one stroke further back at 5 under, including former winner Robert Allenby, who picked up five shots on the back nine for a second-round 66.

John Daly shot a 73 after an opening 76 and missed the cut at 5 over. He'll remain Down Under to play in next week's Australian PGA at Coolum in Queensland state.

Spain moves ahead in World Cup: While Spaniards Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal were dreaming about breaking 60, the other teams were just trying to survive in the World Cup of Golf at Shenzhen, China.

Jimenez and Larrazabal settled for a 9-under 63, a remarkable score in the difficult foursomes format of team golf. The two-day total of 17-under 127 was still good enough for a four-shot lead over Australia (68) and first-round leader Germany (69).

Sweden (67) was five back, and the United States (69) and Ireland (68) were six off the pace of Spain.

Jockey Leparoux sets Churchill win record

Jockey Julien Leparoux has broken a 23-year-old Churchill Downs record for wins at a Fall Meet previously held by Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day.

Leparoux rode home five winners in Louisville, Ky., bringing his total to 59 during the five-week meet that concludes today. Day previously established the Fall Meet mark in 1985 when he rode 55 winners in a 30-day meet.

Rangers trade pitcher Littleton to Red Sox

The Texas Rangers have traded pitcher Wes Littleton to the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later or cash. The Rangers had designated Littleton for assignment Nov. 20. Littleton pitched out of the bullpen in 12 games last season after making a combined 68 appearances the two previous seasons. He was 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA in 2008.

Bogar joins Red Sox staff: The Red Sox hired former major leaguer and Tampa Bay Rays coach Tim Bogar as their new first base coach. The 44-year-old replaces Luis Alicea, the only member of last year's staff who was not offered a contract for the 2009 season.

WADA cites five sports for poor testing

Gymnastics, wrestling and volleyball were among five Olympic sports cited by the World Anti-Doping Agency for failing to implement consistent out-of-competition testing programs. Handball and modern pentathlon were also described as falling short in complying with the World Anti-Doping Code, which was approved in 2003.
